7 Great Tips For Keeping Your Commercial Lift Clean And Bacteria-Free
If you have any commercial lifts within your business premises we hope you are aware that one of the most important tasks relating to it that you have responsibility for is to keep it clean.
That is not to say that you are the one that has to carry out the cleaning work, but if you are the owner or CEO of the company, you need to ensure that someone is doing it, and more importantly, that they are cleaning the lift effectively.
Although a lift might only seem like four sides, a floor, and a ceiling with a total cubic space of sometimes no more than 8ft by 8ft by 10 ft, that does mean its cleanliness and the hygiene within the lift should be overlooked or not given due attention.
The point about hygiene is especially relevant given the world’s recent and ongoing battle against Covid-19.
Whilst hygiene in a lift is important so is its appearance.
It is often one of the first things that any visitors see when they arrive for the first time, and if there is grime, finger marks and even litter present inside the lift, that poor first impression does not augur well for how they might regard your company.
So, to ensure that your lift gets cleaned properly, here are 7 commercial lift cleaning tips you should implement.
Tip #1 – Clean The Lift When The Building Is Closed/Quiet: Trying to clean a lift properly when it is being used is nigh on impossible and more or less defeats the whole point of it.
If at all possible, time your lift cleaning times for when the business is closed, or at least during quieter hours when the lifts are being used less.
Tip #2 – Create A Cleaning Routine And Follow Up System: For the most effective cleaning and to ensure that standards are met, regardless of who is doing the cleaning, you should create an SOP for lift cleaning in your building.
This should be complemented by an inspection or cleaning checklist that confirms each component of the cleaning routine has been completed.
Tip #3 – Use Window Cleaner For Glass Panels And Mirrored Surfaces: Most commercial lifts will have at least one small glass panel in the door, but there are also those which have mirrors and some of the more modern ones are glass all around.
For all of these surfaces, you should be using a non-abrasive window cleaner and one which is specifically designed to remove finger marks and smears.
Tip #4 – Use An Antibacterial Cleaner On The Buttons: Once again we refer to the need to ensure that any lifts in your building are bacteria-free and as hygienic as possible.
Surfaces that are touched by passengers including the buttons on the lift’s control panel are an area of particular concern. Do not forget to also disinfect the ‘Call Lift’ buttons on each floor.
Tip #5 – Clean Stainless Steel With Care: For their construction, many commercial lift companies use stainless steel, so you are likely to need to clean parts of the lift such as doors that are made from it.
These surfaces are particularly prone to finger marks, smears, and grime so they need to be cleaned thoroughly using cleaning solutions specifically formulated for stainless steel to avoid damaging the surface.
Tip #6 – Each Floor’s Lift Doors Count Too: Remember, the external doors that are on each floor form part of your commercial lift, so these need to be cleaned too, including the buttons to call the lift and the glass panel in the door.
Tip #7 – Don’t Forget The Hard To See/Reach Places: The best cleaning jobs are done when attention is paid to fine details.
With lifts, this includes cleaning the lift door tracks, sills within the lift, and even using a scented cleaner on the carpet.
